New Roads and Street Works Act - Operator (NRSWA Units LA, O1 - O5 & O8)
This course is for those employed in carrying out works on the highway who have not worked on the highway before or require re-registration on the SWQR.
Description
This course aims to provide a sound understanding of the techniques of Street Works excavation, backfill and re-instatement. It complies with the mandatory requirements of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991.
To provide knowledge and understanding in the following areas:
- Unit LA - Location and Avoidance of Underground Apparatus.
- Unit O1 - Signing, Lighting and Guarding.
- Unit O2 - Excavation in the Highway.
- Unit O3 - Reinstatement and Compaction of Backfill Materials.
- Unit O4 - Reinstatement of Sub-Base and Road Base in Non-Bituminous Materials.
- Unit O5 - Reinstatement in Cold-Lay Bituminous Materials.
- Unit O8 - Reinstatement of Modular Surfaces.
Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will receive multiple CABWI Certificates and a Street Works Qualification Register (SWQR) Card.

Candidates must be:
- Physically fit.

Candidates must bring the following items with them to the course:
- Safety Boots
- High Visibility Vest/Jacket
- Safety Glasses
- Hard Hat
- Gloves
- Ear Defenders
- Overalls/Suitable Workwear
Materials Required
Candidates are required to bring paper and a pen to make notes during their training.
All candidates must bring with them one of the following forms of ID:
- A valid passport – no more than 6 months out of date
- A valid UK photo driving license - no more than 6 months out of date
- A photographic employee ID card
- A photographic ID card from an awarding body (e.g. IPAF, RTITB, NPORS)

If this course is eligible for a short course grant, please ensure we have your levy number before the course start date, and your candidates provide their national insurance numbers on the day of the course.
