City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Working in High Risk Confined Spaces (6160-03)
This unit is for those working in a high risk environment and includes preparing to work safely, entering and exiting high risk confined spaces safely, using equipment and tools safely, following procedures and dealing with emergencies.
Description
High-risk confined spaces are exactly that — high risk. When environments have the potential for dangerous atmospheres, serious hazards or rapidly changing conditions, only properly trained and competent people should be entering.
The City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Working in High Risk Confined Spaces is designed for operatives who are required to enter high-risk confined spaces across both water and non-water industry areas, where mistakes can have immediate and serious consequences.
This qualification reflects recognised industry standards and covers the differing risks and controls associated with a wide range of working environments.
Water industry environments may include:
-
Potable water systems
-
Sewage and wastewater treatment processes
-
Drain and sewer operations
-
Confined spaces where operatives are working in or near water
-
Locations at risk of surface water flooding
Non-water industry environments may include:
-
Construction and civil engineering
-
Utilities, power, gas and communications
-
Electrical and mechanical engineering
-
Pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries
-
Asbestos removal
-
Manufacturing, vehicle servicing and aeronautical sectors
-
Mining, quarrying and tunnelling operations
At Simply Learning, this is one of our most in-demand confined spaces qualifications. Course places are limited and dates fill quickly, particularly where work is dependent on certification being in place. Early booking is strongly advised to avoid delays on site or missed work.
The course focuses on:
-
What makes a confined space high risk
-
Roles and responsibilities when entering high-risk confined spaces
-
Hazard identification, risk assessment and control measures
-
Safe systems of work, permits and atmospheric monitoring
-
Emergency arrangements and escalation procedures
Training is delivered in a practical, clear and structured way, based on real working conditions rather than theory alone. Learners leave with a solid understanding of both the risks involved and how to manage them safely.
This qualification is suitable for experienced operatives who need to demonstrate competence when working in high-risk confined spaces, across a range of industries and environments.
